Last week we talked about the initial concept of the Trinity. You can read that here. This week we’re going to dive a bit deeper into God the Father.
This is big. Huge. This means that God is revealed as a loving Father. This implies that earthly dad’s like me are meant to reflect God to our children. So your Dad will always impact your view of God. God is the first Father and so He isn’t called that by a relation of mankind, rather man is and earthly Fatherhood is called such by a comparison to God. i.e. Fatherhood came from God to man and wasn’t a title given from man to God.
How He’s Father
God is creator of all things but the term Father, when applied to God, is a bit more narrow. The term Father doesn’t apply to all people.
First, to the other Members of the Godhead. I’ll get to this in a moment.
Second, Israel. God is the Father of Israel by initiation from Him and setting them apart by placing His love on them.
Third, Christians. God is the Father of Christians, who are described as ‘Children of God’ due to Him having set them apart by election and them being indwelt by the Holy Spirit. In this Christians are adopted by God and become participants in a Father Son relationship through Jesus Christ. John 1:12 and Galatians 4:4-7
with the other members of the Trinity. God the Father is not the Son or the Holy Spirit. The Father is in the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Father Glorifies the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Father receives Glory from the Son and the Holy Spirit. A good example of all their relationship is after Jesus was baptised in Matthew 3:16-17
